Kante, Kai Havertz, Mateo Kovacic: Latest Chelsea injury news ahead of Zenit St Petersburg
The Blues travel to the Gazprom Arena having already booked their place in the next round of the competition, whilst they now have the chance to seal top spot with victory.
Germany attacking mid-fider Havertz limped off the pitch on Saturday afternoon at West Ham and things did not look good for the German.
However, Naijanex has learned that the injury is not as serious as first feared, with there even a chance of Havertz being in the side against Zenit on Wednesday night.
The versatile German forward even featured in full first team training on Tuesday before the team jetted off to Russia in the evening.
The Italy international has not been in the best form recently, but that could be to do with a hip problem he has been carrying.
Jorginho played the full 90 minutes in the five-goal thriller in east London at the weekend, but Tuchel confirmed that he has been trying to fight through the pain barrier in recent weeks and will be left out of the side for the trip to Russia.
The Croatian made a brilliant start to the season, scoring once and assisting five more in nine games, but a training ground injury has seen him miss the Blues last eight games.
Thomas Tuchel confirmed that Kovacic had returned to training but a positive Covid-19 test is set to keep him restricted to the sidelines for even longer.
What Tuchel has said: “We have bad news because Mateo was in training yesterday with a big smile and it was pure pleasure to have him back. But he tested positive today before the warm-up so he is isolating and out for several days which is a huge setback for him and all of us.”
France mid-fider Kante, missed the defeat to West Ham at the weekend through an injury he suffered to his knee against Juventus in November.
The France midfielder’s return date is still unknown at this point, with Tuchel not be able to issue much of an update on the Chelsea star.
What Tuchel has said: ” N’Golo Kante is out.”
Chelsea academy star Chalobah, is facing a spell on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring injury, with the young defender missing the game at West Ham on Saturday.Chelsea Havertx Havertz Jorginho Kante
